Shannon Lionberger Hart Art & Business Scholarship at UIS
In Development — First Award Tentatively Planned for Spring 2027
The Shannon Lionberger Hart Art & Business Scholarship at the University of Illinois Springfield is being developed by Major (Ret.) Michael P. Hart in memory of his late wife, Shannon.
The vision brings together two personal educational journeys: Shannon’s Bachelor of Arts and Michael’s Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois Springfield. It reflects the belief that artistic talent and business knowledge are complementary skills that help students build fulfilling, sustainable careers.
For Michael, this is an opportunity to give back to his university while honoring Shannon’s creativity and love of learning.
Current Status
Work is underway with UIS to develop the proposed permanent endowment and finalize the scholarship’s formal documentation, eligibility criteria, award amount, and selection process.
The first award is tentatively planned for spring 2027, subject to completion of those arrangements. Application information and confirmed award details will be shared as they become available.
This scholarship is being developed separately from the Shannon Lionberger Hart Art & Business Scholarship at Lincoln Land Community College, which is planned for its first award in spring 2027.
A Lasting Purpose
The goal is to provide recurring student support through a permanent endowment, keeping Shannon’s memory connected to education and opportunity for future generations.
The broader vision includes encouraging connections between arts education, entrepreneurship, and professional development. Further opportunities will be shared as they take shape.
