Partnerships, Collaboration & Impact

Connecting people, institutions, and resources to create lasting opportunity.

My work brings together education, leadership, the arts, veteran support, and Native-led economic development through relationships built on listening, shared purpose, and practical support.

Collaboration means identifying where people and institutions can strengthen one another’s work. That may involve connecting artistic education with business skills, supporting students as they enter their professions, helping veterans build financial stability, or investing in institutions that expand access to opportunity.

These efforts include scholarships, student initiatives, charitable support, impact investing, and the relationships that help turn shared interests into lasting results. They reach from educational institutions in Illinois to Native-led organizations with regional and national reach.

Through my personal involvement and Hart Legacy Press, I seek to help bridge gaps between education and experience, talent and opportunity, and resources and community priorities.

Institutional Relationships & Initiatives

Western Illinois University

My relationship with WIU includes the permanently endowed Michael P. Hart Leadership & Stewardship Scholarship, support for ROTC and student initiatives, contributions to the performing arts, and continued engagement around leadership, history, public service, and educational opportunity.

As a Western alumnus and Army ROTC graduate, I value opportunities to support the next generation while remaining connected to the faculty, staff, and programs preparing them.

That involvement reflects a continuing commitment to students as they develop the judgment, resilience, curiosity, and sense of responsibility they will carry into their professions and communities.

Lincoln Land Community College

At LLCC, I am supporting scholarship development, art and business education, and efforts to give creative students access to current credentials, practical experience, entrepreneurial skills, and stronger career pathways.

This work includes the Shannon Lionberger Hart Art and Business Scholarship, established in memory of Shannon and designed to support students working at the intersection of creativity, education, and business. The scholarship is expected to be awardable beginning in Spring 2027.

I want this work to recognize students’ achievements while helping them prepare for life as working artists—creating, sharing emotion and experience, and developing the practical skills needed to earn a living through their talents.

University of Illinois Springfield

At UIS, I have participated in ongoing discussions surrounding the development and rollout of revised art programming, with particular interest in student opportunity, experiential learning, entrepreneurship, and community connection.

As a UIS business graduate, I am interested in the connections between creative education and the knowledge students need to sustain professional work: understanding organizations, managing resources, developing opportunities, and bringing their work to an audience.

I also intend to establish a companion Shannon Lionberger Hart Art and Business Scholarship at UIS, with the goal of having it established and positioned to begin supporting students no later than 2028.

Together, these efforts at LLCC and UIS reflect my interest in helping students connect artistic development with practical opportunity.

Lakota Funds

My relationship with Lakota Funds has grown into active support for Native-led economic development and community finance on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Following a personal visit to Pine Ridge and conversations with Executive Director Tawney Brunsch, I made a repayable impact investment supporting the organization’s work. This places patient capital behind an institution with longstanding community relationships and experience helping Native entrepreneurs and families build financial strength.

I have also made a separate charitable contribution to the Veterans Match Savings Program, funding the match for a participating Native veteran. The program combines financial education and matched savings to help veterans build assets and pursue goals such as homeownership and entrepreneurship.

I am exploring additional matching and crowdfunding opportunities with Tawney and the Lakota Funds team. Through my personal involvement and Hart Legacy Press, I welcome opportunities to organize, support, and promote campaigns that help more veterans participate.

Oweesta Corporation — Supporting Native-Led Opportunity Nationwide

I am now an investment partner with Oweesta Corporation, with an initial three-year personal impact investment supporting its national work.

Oweesta is the longest-standing Native Community Development Financial Institution intermediary. It provides capital, training, technical assistance, research, and policy advocacy to strengthen Native CDFIs and Native communities.

Its reach extends across the country, including American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities. By supporting Native-led financial institutions, Oweesta helps strengthen the organizations that provide financing, financial education, and opportunities for families, businesses, and communities.

This relationship represents a meaningful new step for me and the broader mission of Hart Legacy Press: supporting an established national institution whose work connects capital with locally determined priorities.

My role is to back Native leadership and institutional experience. Oweesta’s work demonstrates how sustained support for community lenders can help expand opportunity well beyond a single project or location.

Collaboration Across Institutions & Communities

Over the past several months, I have participated in collaborative conversations with leaders at UIS and LLCC, both in person and virtually.

The goal is to identify where institutional strengths can complement one another and create greater value for students, faculty, programs, institutions, and the broader Springfield community.

I am especially encouraged by the progress around art, business, credentials, experiential learning, and professional opportunities for creative students. This includes looking at how education can help students move from developing their abilities to sustaining meaningful work.

That same approach informs my support for Lakota Funds and Oweesta. The settings and missions differ, but each relationship involves listening to experienced leaders, understanding their priorities, and identifying useful ways to contribute.

Education is a connecting thread throughout this work. It includes learning in classrooms, developing professional and entrepreneurial skills, understanding financial decisions, and preparing people to lead within their communities.

Collaboration can mean connecting people who should know one another, helping others discover an effective program, supporting a student’s next step, or committing resources to an institution positioned to serve communities over time.

Sometimes the opportunity is not to build something new. It is to connect what already exists.

Scholarships & Legacy

The Shannon Lionberger Hart Art and Business Scholarships at LLCC and UIS, and the larger personal story behind that work, will have a dedicated page of their own.

Alongside the Michael P. Hart Leadership & Stewardship Scholarship at WIU, these efforts reflect my belief that legacy grows through the opportunities we help others create.

Across education, the arts, military service, and Native-led economic development, my purpose is to help people build the knowledge, confidence, relationships, and resources to carry their work forward.

Build the bridge. Connect the people. Leave something stronger behind.
