Shannon Lionberger - Hart 2018
The Shannon Lionberger - Harts’ Art & Business Bridge Initiative
In Development - Phase 2
Anticipated Launch: 27–28 Academic Year
The Shannon Lionberger-Hart Art & Business Bridge Initiative is a philanthropic vision established by Major (Ret.) Michael P. Hart in memory of his late wife, Shannon Lionberger-Hart who had a Bachelor of Arts and studied at LLC herself.
Currently under collaborative development with leadership at Lincoln Land Community College and the University of Illinois Springfield, the initiative seeks to strengthen the connection between arts education, business education, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and community engagement through permanent charitable investment.
Rather than supporting a single scholarship, the long-term goal is to build an educational bridge connecting students, educators, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community partners while helping creative students develop the professional and entrepreneurial skills needed for sustainable careers.
Vision
The initiative is guided by a simple belief:
Artistic talent and business knowledge are complementary skills.
When developed together, they create stronger professionals, stronger institutions, and stronger communities.
Current Development
Planning discussions presently include exploration of:
Student scholarships
Innovation and operational support funds
Internships and experiential learning
Entrepreneurship education
Gallery and exhibition support
Community partnerships
Collaborative programming between LLCC and UIS
Specific endowment structures and implementation details remain under development in partnership with institutional leadership.
Long-Term Goal
The long-term vision is to establish one of Central Illinois first coordinated philanthropic initiatives connecting arts education, business education, workforce development, and regional economic development through permanent endowment support.
By investing simultaneously in students, institutional collaboration, and community partnerships, the initiative seeks to create opportunities that benefit future generations while honoring Shannon Lionberger-Hart's legacy of creativity, compassion, education, and service.
Current Status
The initiative remains in collaborative development with leadership at Lincoln Land Community College and the University of Illinois Springfield. Additional information will be announced as planning progresses toward an anticipated 2027–2028 academic year launch.
Phase III — Platform Expansion (In Development)
Expanding the Hart Legacy educational platform through additional scholarship opportunities, educational programming, leadership initiatives, public history, mentorship, workforce development, and community engagement that build upon the foundation established in Phase I.
Phase IV — Institutional Legacy (Long-Term Development)
Developing larger multi-institution partnerships, educational bridge initiatives, regional collaborations, and permanent philanthropic investments that connect multiple organizations while creating enduring opportunities for future generations.
